Why a Second Funding Round Needs a Fresh Review
The first round went fine. That made the next decision feel familiar. Bill Hedge’s interview describes a second MCA round that left the company in a more difficult position.

The detail behind the lesson
“First round went fine”
A successful first round is part of his story, but it does not establish that the next commitment fits the same cash flow.
Begin with the commitments already in place
Before comparing a new offer, gather the arrangements that are still active. Note the agreed payments, current statements and expected completion conditions. Keep uncertain balances marked for clarification.
Ask what is different this time
Has project income changed? Have operating costs changed? Would a new commitment overlap with an existing one? What assumptions made the first round manageable, and are they still true? The interview illustrates why a previous experience cannot answer all of those questions.
Compare the combined position
Ask for an explanation of how the new proposal interacts with existing obligations. Do not treat the cash received under a new arrangement as a complete picture of its effect on the business. Costs, payment timing and outstanding commitments also need to be understood.
Return to the original experience
